Local winners
Three tickets sold in Northland were among 25 nationally that each won Lotto Second Division on Saturday, with one also winning Powerball Second Division.
One of the winning Second Division tickets was sold via MyLotto in Northland, while the other two were sold at Molesworth Four Square, Mangawhai and Mahurangi Four Square, in Warkworth and each won $18,087. The ticket sold in Warkworth also won Powerball Second Division, taking their total winnings to $28,679.
Enrolment reminder
Northland voters who haven't received their personalised EasyVote pack in the mail by now need to enrol or update their details by this Friday. "EasyVote packs were sent to all enrolled New Zealanders last week," says chief electoral officer Alicia Wright. "If you haven't got yours, it means you're probably not enrolled, so get in touch now to check your details. You need to be enrolled to be able to vote in the 2017 general election." The last chance to enrol is Friday. People can enrol and vote at any advance voting place, or can get an enrolment form at www.elections.org.nz to print, sign and return.
Teen earns scolding
An Auckland teenager who could not resist sharing the natural buzz she was experiencing in Kaitaia on Saturday afternoon chose an unappreciative audience. The 17-year-old bared her chest at the occupants of a passing police car outside the hospital, which earned her a ticking off.
Five robbery arrests
All five youths accused of taking part in robbing Kaikohe's Tui Superette on September 4 have now been apprehended. Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said one of the offenders had come close to severing an employee's arm with a meat cleaver. Two boys aged 14 and 16 were arrested two days later, thanks in part to CCTV images. Since then three more have been arrested. Two have appeared in the Kaikohe Youth Court, while a 13-year-old has been referred to Youth Aid.
Drink-driving charge
A 76-year-old Kaitaia man was summonsed for driving with excess alcohol after he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel on State Highway 1 at Awanui on Saturday afternoon. The occupants of a police patrol car, who were following him, watched as his vehicle crossed the road and crashed into a ditch and through a fence. He allegedly recorded 511 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
