Cannabis rooms uncovered in Kohukohu

Kohukohu police uncovered two cannabis grow rooms when they executed a search warrant at a Broadwood house on Tuesday. About 150 to 200 plants, at varying stages of growth, were located at the address. Inquiries are continuing to establish who the growers were.

Te Ara a Kupe Beaton Scholarships

The Te Ara a Kupe Beaton Scholarships from Crimson Education give five Māori high school students personal mentoring and education services worth $20,000 each. A trip to the supermarket turned out to be more eventful than usual for one woman in Kaitaia. Police arrested the 35-year-old woman in the Kaitaia Pak'nSave car park on Tuesday as she loaded groceries into a vehicle that had been stolen from Pukekohe. She was charged with receiving stolen goods and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle. The woman was bailed to appear in court on Friday.

New Northland Inc board

The new Northland Inc board has had its first meeting at which the only previous board member to be kept on, Sarah Peterson, was named interim chairwoman until the other six, all new, members find their feet. The board will then choose a chair. The six new directors are Nicole Anderson, Dennis Callesen, Geoff Copstick, David Crewe, Kris MacDonald and Jim Makaweo. In welcoming the new board, chief executive David Wilson paid tribute to the outgoing board and its chairwoman, Karleen Everitt.

World of Wearable Art Awards Show

Two Bay of Islands designers have reached the finals of the prestigious nationwide World of WearableArt Awards Show. Isa Hackett from Kerikeri and Lynda O'Rorke from Paihia have garments confirmed for this year's show. The garments will not be revealed to the public until the show is held in Wellington from September 27 to October 14. Touted as New Zealand's most spectacular stage show, the World of WearableArt has been running 30 years.
