Quarry workers locked out
Northland quarry workers based out of a Atlas Quarry site on the south side of the Brynderwyn Hills have been locked out of the work site until Sunday. The lockout demands workers agree to the deal on the table, a deal which the workers say is lower than the living wage. Workers are not paid during the lockout which started on Friday last week. Due to community support a fund has been set up to help the workers with their pay dispute. FIRST Union Transport, Logistics and Manufacturing Division Secretary Jared Abbott said the current offer to settle the collective was well below market rate. Abbott said the picket, on State Highway 1, is boosting workers' morale despite the lockout.

Acting Senior Sergeant Dylan Robinson, of Mid North police, said at least five vehicles were broken into between 4pm and 9.40pm on Kerikeri Rd, Homestead Rd, Hobson Ave and Canon Drive. The woman was facing 11 charges, seven of them relating to Friday night's crime spree and the rest to earlier incidents in Auckland, and had been remanded in custody to appear in the Waitakere District Court on August 23. The youth had been referred to police Youth Aid. Two bluetooth speakers and a hoodie were taken.
