Wanted man held after chase
A wanted man from Kerikeri with a distinctive gang tattoo on his face has been arrested after a car chase in the Bay of Plenty. Last week police put out a call for sightings of 42-year-old Anthony Gene Wharton, who was wanted after failing to appear in court on drugs, firearms, dishonesty and driving offences. Members of the public were urged not to approach Wharton but to call 111 if they saw him. Sergeant Ross Laurie, of Kerikeri police, said Wharton was arrested after a pursuit in Whakatane about 3am yesterday. He was driving a car which had been stolen in Kerikeri on Sunday night. Wharton has the words "Black Power" tattooed backwards under his eyes.
