Bull injures man
A man was taken to hospital after being attacked by a bull in Northland. Emergency services were called to a property in the small town of Ruawai, just south of Dargaville in Northland, shortly after midday, yesterday. Fire crews were also called to the scene. A St John spokesman said a 70-year-old man was injured in a bull attack. The man was taken to the Whangārei Hospital in a moderate condition, the spokesman said. The fate of the bull is not known. No further details were available at edition time yesterday.

Dawn star trek
Planetarium North and KiwiNorth will be open early in the morning next week so punters can watch Puanga and Matariki's travels across the sky. Puanga is a star which was historically the focus of the Māori new year celebrations in Northland, rather than Matariki - a cluster of stars. Planetarium North will be open at 6am next Saturday and there will be 10-minute tours until 7am. There will also be a brazier fire on top of the Museum knoll and the exhibition celebrating Matariki 2018 Puanga – Star of the New Year, star of abundance will be open for viewing,
Broadband research
The Commerce Commission is looking for 3000 households to be part of a nationwide programme to monitor and improve New Zealand's broadband performance. The aim, Telecommunications Commissioner Dr Stephen Gale said, was to provide consumers with independent information on broadband performance across different providers, plans and technologies to help them choose the best broadband for their household. Volunteers were needed in all parts of the country, of all ages, and on all types of broadband technologies, plans and providers. They would be provided with a whitebox (similar to a modem) to plug in at home, which would perform automated tests on the home's internet performance at different times of the day. Ryman aids Alzheimers NZ
A record $390,000 donation by Ryman Healthcare to Alzheimers NZ will significantly benefit the many thousands of Kiwis living with dementia. Alzheimers NZ chairman Dr Ngaire Dixon said it was the single largest charity fundraising donation it had received. Alzheimers NZ would use the money to fund frontline support services around New Zealand for the 60,000-plus people living with dementia and their care partners. Some of the funds are also ear-marked for research. Ryman Healthcare owns the Jane Mander Retirement Village in west Kamo, Whangārei.
