Mt Parihaka carparks closed
The upper and lower carparks on Whangarei's Mt Parihaka will be closed from 6am tomorrow to 6am on Wednesday . The carparks, which are at the end of Memorial Drive, will be closed so supplies for the upgrade of Parihaka's Drummond track can be delivered safely to the summit of Mt Parihaka by helicopter. The Hokianga, Dobbie and Ross tracks will be open during this time. The Dobbie and Ross tracks are also in line to receive upgrades in the coming months.
No arrests after bank robbery
No arrests have been made in relation to the bank robbery in Whangarei last week. Police said there had been no arrests during the weekend and the two masked robbers who had a firearm and took cash from the ANZ bank last Thursday was still on the run. Police have not revealed how much cash was taken or if any had been recovered.
Sculpture Symposium auction
The Sculpture Symposium auction was held on Thursday night after 10 days of toil by 20 artists. New Plymouth artist Steve Molloy's piece, Intrepid Journey, won the Whangarei District Council Symposium Award, was purchased by the council and will be installed somewhere on the Hihiaua Peninsula. Anthony Dunn and Graham Nathan's piece, He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata, won the People's Choice Award and was also selected by the judges at the winner of the Te Aue Marie Award. It will be installed at Kerikeri Airport as part of next year's 250 year commemorations of Captain Cook and his Polynesian navigator Tupaia reached New Zealand.
Lotto winners
Lucky Lotto players from Auckland and Palmerston North were celebrating in style after winning $500,000 each in Lotto First Division on Saturday. The winning tickets were sold at Paper Plus Highland Park in Auckland and Cloverlea Four Square in Palmerston North.
Powerball was not struck and has rolled over to Wednesday night, where the jackpot will be $6 million. The winning numbers were 12, 15, 18, 21, 22, 37 and bonus 32.
