Fifteen lucky Lotto players – including someone who bought a ticket from a Whangārei supermarket – will be enjoying a boost to their bank account after each winning $15,716 with Lotto second division in Saturday night’s Lotto draw. Winning second division tickets were sold in Pak’nSave Whangārei and stores in Auckland and elsewhere around the country. People can check their ticket in-store, on MyLotto, or through the MyLotto App. Lotto NZ exists to return 100% of its profits to Kiwi communities through lottery grants programmes run by Te Puna Tahua New Zealand Lottery Grants Board.
Community Christmas tree vandalised
The Kerikeri Community Charitable Trust is appealing for information after the community Christmas tree was vandalised. The trust said around 50% of the programmable lights were damaged recently, which was “disheartenening”. The community Christmas tree is located by the library in the Kerikeri Domain during the festive season. Some community members had provided information about the incident, and the trust was waiting to review CCTV footage. Contact the trust via Facebook or visit kerikeriourtown.co.nz if you can help.
Water use reduction request
Whangārei District Council has advised residents in Hikurangi, Tikipunga, Whau Valley, Te Kamo, Three Mile Bush, Ōtangarei and Tikipunga to use less water than usual. Teams are working to repair a reservoir leak, which will take about three weeks to repair. Two of the five water pumps are out of service which affects the ability to deliver water to northern parts of the Whangārei District. Water services manager Andrew Venmore said the repair works would be faster if people reduced their use of water during the rest of January.
