Northland candidate: Craig Nelson - ACT

Northland is a great place to be and I believe it can be the best region in the country.

At the moment we have high unemployment but as many businesses want to start up or grow out and expand, they are cut off and restricted by red tape.

By streamlining processes and reforming the Resource Management Act businesses will be able to move forward and live up to their potential.

This is one of the key parts to keeping Northland moving.

By cutting corporate welfare, it will enable us to lower taxes so people can spend their money as they see fit and not cut essential services.

Helping people who don't fit the standard education system or the nearest schools will have more choice as we will remove school zones and introduce more charter schools which are having great success in helping youth focus their potential and own their own future.

We will help schools recruit and retain the best teachers by giving them the ability to pay the best teachers more and use their budget the best way they can see and not be restricted by the current system.

Housing is also a big issue here and most of the supply issues come from a highly restrictive and expensive system required to develop housing areas and road blocks put in place by local councils who you can never get the same story out of twice when trying to do any project adding huge costs and delays.

By reforming the RMA and streamlining processes we can help resolve the housing issues by enabling growth in the market and to make housing more affordable.

By helping businesses grow and create more employment by removing red tape and lowering corporate tax, we will help raise employment and make sure that people can make their own future and get people ready with a world class educations system.

I am passionate about Northland and can see how great we are and how great we can become but only with a strong and stable government can we make this a reality.
