Avowing volunteers
Far North community groups and volunteers have just a few more days to ensure they are part of the Far North's biggest celebration highlighting the district's volunteers. Entries for the TrustPower Far North Community Awards close at 5pm on Friday, June 1, and there is more than $5000 up for grabs. Entry forms are available at any council office or service centre, online at www.trustpower.co.nz/communityawards or by calling TrustPower Community Relations on 0800 87 11 11. Suzi will gladly take entries over the phone.
Adams on show
Acclaimed painter Richard Adams will hold a one-off, one-night-only exhibition of new paintings on paper in Kerikeri tonight. The show, at Kaan Zamaan gallery on Kerikeri Rd, will run from 4-7pm. Mr Adams, who is also a member of the jazz group Nairobi Trio, will be present during the show.
Buses re-routed
CityLink's Raumanga and Morningside bus service will be temporarily re-routed from today due to roadworks. The Whangarei District Council is doing re-alignment works at the Tarewa Rd-Porowini Avenue intersection during May and June 2012. This means a temporary route change between Raumanga and Morningside for CityLink's Route 5 bus service. The bus service will be re-routed from the Rose St bus terminal into Walton Street, Railway Rd, Woods St, Commerce St, Okara Drive, Porowini Ave, Kaka St and into Morningside Road. Three Morningside Rd bus stops - two outside Carousel Kitchens and one near Morningside shops - will be unavailable during the work. The closest alternative bus stop will be at Morningside Primary School.
Stories road trip
The Inspiring Stories Charitable Trust will visit Whangarei on its national road trip on Thursday.
This year the trust has partnered with the New Zealand Film Commission to work with young people to teach them how to write, film and edit their own stories.
