Warkworth resident Joy Boniface has been awarded a Queen's Service Medal in the New Year Honours List for her services to the community for more than 60 years.
Mrs Boniface, who lives at Snells Beach has served in The Order of St John for more than 38 years, having joined as a student cadet in the United Kingdom in 1940, rejoining in Howick in 1974 and progressing over the years through several supervisory roles in the Warkworth Division.
She has been an area committee member since 1992 and is now a volunteer team manager and resource coordinator dealing with injuries and sick patrons at local events.
She was also a volunteer at Totara Park Day Centre from 1991 to 2013, teaching elderly clients to exercise to music. She has been a volunteer organiser of the Warkworth Blood Transfusion Service since 1994 and joint Custodian of the Sandspit Yacht Club since 1998.
Mrs Boniface has been a Hospice volunteer since 2005.
