The game was drawn at the end of the first quarter but by halftime Whangaruru Premier had taken the lead to be ahead by seven goals.
At the end of the third quarter they were ahead by 10 goals and managed to hold WGHS Snr 1 off to win 53-44.
For Whangaruru, Jamiee-Lee Tito at centre and Morgan Taurua at goal shoot had strong games.
All the defence worked hard and were effective including Liahona Hebden at goal keep, Sue Ann David at goal defence and Reanon Hetaraka-Sadler at wing defence.

In the remaining match of the round, YHPJ Marist 1 secured a win over Manawanui Red, pulling ahead to win 42-34.
For Marist 1, Terrianne Takulua at goal shoot had a strong game while Natalie Wilcox at wing defence put good pressure on the feeders.
Manawanui Red's Kayson Keerako had a fantastic debut game while Karlena Tongotea, at wing attack then wing defence, was the player of the night showing her dynamic skills.
Next weekend is the first round of the three week long finals format which will see 1st v 2nd, 3rd v 4th and 5th v 6th.
