For WGHS, other commitments meant a number of their team members were unavailable.
Ricco Niha, pulled up from Snr 2, had a good game with an unfamiliar team, and while Serai Murray-Wihongi turned over ball, it was not always able to be rewarded at the other end.
The team maintained their momentum throughout the game, putting a similar score on the board in each quarter.
Meanwhile Huanui College Silver faced their first Premier game against the unbeaten Active Refrigeration Fideliter 1.
Given their dominance, the Fideliter team is an intimidating proposition for most sides.
However the Huanui team came to play and the girls put out a good first up performance to prove they deserved their promotion to the grade.
Emerina Marsh-Kiro showed her versatility playing in three different positions.
Fideliter's mid court was strengthened with the return of Lara Cooper at centre who delivered the ball through the court quickly and calmly. Fideliter won the match 63-33.
In the game between Manawanui Red and Whangaruru Premiers the first quarter was tightly contested, with only one goal in it.
However, from there onwards the Whangaruru side had the better of Manawanui and won comfortably 60-47.
Jade Telfer and Reanon Hetaraka-Sadler combined well for Whangaruru in the defence circle to continually put pressure on the Manawanui shooting options.
Full court defence was effective for Whangaruru and it forced turnovers that were capitalised on.
