For WGHS Snr 1, Shekania Cherrington at wing defence and goal defence had a great game. Rayna Dangen and Serai Murray-Wihongi were strong in the midcourt on attack and defence while Maddy Gordon at goal shoot, centre and goal attack showed her skill and versatility.
In the remaining premier game, Manawanui Red had a close game against YHPJ Marist 1 to determine the wooden spooners.
Manawanui Red had a one goal lead at the first break and by halftime had extended this to be ahead by five goals.
By three quarter time Marist 1 only trailed by one goal but a dominant last quarter saw Manawanui snatch the win, 42-33.
While it was a low scoring affair, the game saw commitment and pressure applied from every player.
For Manawanui Red, Harmony Kingi at wing defence had a great game, performing well in defence and shutting down a lot of passes into the circle.
Hayley Thompson at goal keep and Ari Ihaka at goal defence were solid and set the bar for Jemma Bicknell when she came on late in the game.
For Marist 1, Natalie Wilcox at wing defence got a lot of turnover ball while Carys Burkhardt at goal attack shot well most of the game.
