A change of venue for this weekend's premier netball gave WGHS Snr 1 a winning home advantage.
WGHS, playing in the school gym, had a strong first quarter against Manawanui Red, taking a 12-5 lead. But, Manawanui fought back with a deliberate and precise game plan, and Sarah Congdon's consistent shooting helped to bring them to within three during the third quarter. The WGHS team put together a complete final quarter, working well together moving and releasing the ball swiftly through the court. Uma Robinson played an exceptional game at GK getting numerous intercepts and tips. It saw them take away a convincing win 50-36.
In the other games Manawanui White played Whangaruru 1. Whangaruru had a strong first quarter playing some lovely free flowing netball. They had excellent timing onto the ball and put a competitive score on the board just behind Manawanui at 15-13. Their competitive start caused some significant changes to be made by Manawanui, and experienced players Jaelyn Walker and Kaea Robinson were brought on at respective ends of the court, and their injection into the game paid immediate dividends. Tyler Nankivell played an outstanding defensive game for Manawanui and together she and her team stepped up and showed their capabilities snuffing out any hope Whangaruru might have shown early on winning the match 72-28.
Active Refrigeration Fideliter 1's game against Whangaruru Prems lived up to expectation. It was a physical, aggressive game, with everything strongly contested by both teams. The height of Jade Telfer at GK for Whangaruru was an asset and she was light on her feet putting pressure on the Fideliter shooting circle. Meanwhile, Monique Satele for Fideliter at GD played a clean and disciplined game. Fideliter took home a comfortable 59-42 win.
