The challenge has been set to Whangarei residents to get down to support the Whangarei Speedway at their next meeting on November 23, after a quieter than expected opening weekend.
Whangarei Speedway club president Peter Blacklock has called out Northlanders to get behind them after the weekend's quiet but excitingopening.
"I guess we had a lot to compete with, such as the fireworks," Blacklock commented. " And by opening weekend are a lot [of drivers] haven't finished their cars.
"It was quite an exciting meeting for the numbers we had ... [and] I think interest will get better."
Blacklock said particular excitement was in the men's production class which saw Fraser Blacklock finish first equal - with Colin Auket - after breaking his diff in third race.
He added that if people would rather join in they could sign up to the C grade, which is an introductory type class, for next to no money and cars were not hard to get hold of.
