A total of 21 drivers hit the pad in Kaikohe Speedway for the first Burn Out Competition of the winter season.
After a hard-fought battle for the top spot, local favourite Carl Adams emerged the overall victor with the best three burnouts on the day, with a VL Commodore driven by Adrian from the Hokianga hot on his heels.
Also notable on the weekend were Rata Nikora showing great style despite having trouble with his gearbox by making his RWD car crab sideways, creating a huge smokescreen and showing good handling skills in going backwards; Chris Flood in his camouflage VL making it through to the last round before the engine finally gave up; whilst refusing to be outdone by the six and eight cylinders, Linden in his Mitsubishi Lancer showed that four-pot cars could be just as entertaining.
The top placegetters received cash prizes, while spot prizes were awarded to those performing the best skids in the three classes contested on the day.
Organisers noted the committee spent many hours on the lead-up to the weekend gathering sponsorship and cleaning the 30x30 metre pad, which was left muddy after a wet Speedway Easter meeting.
