A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after his motorbike collided with a small truck.
Both vehicles were heading South on State Highway 10, Waipapa, at about 11.15am on Saturday when the motorcyclist, a 45-year-old man, collided with the truck as it turned right into a private driveway just north of the Kapiro Rd intersection, said Senior Constable Warren Bunn from Northland Police Serious Crash Unit.
"He was airlifted to [Whangarei Hospital] with suspected head injuries but he was conscious and talking to staff," he said.
Mr Bunn said the serious crash unit did not attend the crash but he had talked to staff who were at the scene.
A St John spokesman said the man also had a suspected chest injury and lower limb injury and was "pretty banged up".
