Students from Whangārei's Morningside School got a lesson in being a kaitiaki (guardian) of their environment from one of the best.
The students made the short trip to Dragonfly Springs Wetland Sanctuary in Onerahi yesterday in two separate groups.
Dragonfly Springs' Jeremy Busck showed them different types of traps at the springs, examples of the types of things that get caught in the trap and stopped from entering the harbour and more.
The students would take what they learned back and apply it to an area near their school.
Photographer Michael Cunningham tagged along with the second group of students.
