A 24-year-old Northlander who sparked a major manhunt two weeks ago is still on the run and was last seen in the Ruapehu District.
Daniel Donnelly Wason was being questioned about an October 7 burglary and assault on Opua's English Bay Rd when he fled on foot into bush and rugged farmland near Oromahoe.
An extensive search by armed police and a sniffer dog failed to find him, though a shotgun taken in the burglary was recovered.
Sergeant Kevin Milne, of Kawakawa police, said officers acting on information received had searched addresses in Whangarei and as far away as Ohakune. The information was accurate but Wason remained one step ahead.
Mr Milne appealed to Wason to hand himself in. Anyone with information about his location should call the Kawakawa station on (09) 404 3154 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
