BP is undertaking a major modification to the petrol station "to ensure the very best offer and experience to its customers in Whangarei", said BP spokeswoman Anna Radich.
The modification will see a more open layout of the store and an improved offer for customers, as well as enhanced security features and operational spaces for staff.
The works began on September 12 with the new store expected to be open by the end of the year.
During this time the forecourt and carwash will continue to operate as usual and a temporary store has been set up on site.
"Customers can of course still use the BPMe app to pay for their fuel from the convenience of their car," Ms Radich said.
