When it came to Lotto luck last year, Northland was firmly middle of the road.
Lotto NZ has just released details of Lotto wins per capita for 78 towns, cities and districts in the country, with Westland coming out on top at winnings of $799.10 per person.
This was almost double the second place district - Rotorua at $418.97 - and aided by Westland's small population of 8,640 and Hokitika's $6.5 million Powerball win in January.
Whangarei had the highest per capita winnings of the three Northland districts at $52.40, coming in at 39th place. Kaipara had per capita winnings of $49.81 in 43rd place while the Far North rate was $48.35 in 45th.
Southland props up the list at a paltry $19.19 per person winnings.
