The founding director of the Whangarei Art Museum, Scott Pothan, has resigned after more than 19 years of service.
"After nearly 20 years with one organisation I feel it is time for new challenges. I am very proud of what I and the team at WAM have achieved and I know the museum will continue to grow," Mr Pothan is quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Whangarei Art Museum Trust yesterday.
Mr Pothan, who has been on extended leave from his role this year, was unavailable for further comment.
Since its formation in 1996 the museum has become one of the leading regional art museums in New Zealand.
Mr Pothan's contribution and his extensive work with the visual arts in Whangarei and Northland is recognised nationally. The trust has acknowledged that contribution. "Scott's energy, networks and knowledge have brought many new and dynamic experiences to Whangarei and the Northland community during his time at WAM. We wish him the best in his future endeavours," chairman Grant Faber said.
