According to the MetService Northland is in for a some lightning and thunder today.
Local Meteorologist Georgina Griffiths said a radar image taken about 11am shows a mass of lightning marked as a red X just to the west of Northland.
"The radar is showing a very heavy band of rain coming in from the Tasman and onto Northland. It contains thunder and lightning, and a burst of heavy rain. The good news is that the heavy rain and thundery falls ease this afternoon", said Ms Griffiths.
"But we expect the wind to kick in from afternoon, with wind gusts to 90km/h for exposed parts of Northland. The gusty winds ease tonight."
For the remainder of the week, Northland is set to receive more settled weather than the rough stuff recently experienced.
