A dominant force is yet to emerge in both the North and South pools of the NorthTec Adam Blair secondary schools rugby league competition.

However, the competition's frontrunners are starting to emerge with not much separating the top two sides of each pool as round five kicks-off across Northland this afternoon.

Narrowly in front at the top of the North Pool, Kaitaia College are starting to creep ahead, however, Northland College aren't far behind with both sides locked on eight points.

Ahead on points differential, Kaitaia are enjoying their rise to the top, and will be looking to grow their winning margin when they host Whangaroa College today.

In the South Pool, the battle for the lead is similar, with Whangarei Boys' High School tied on seven points with Kamo High School - the overall lead in the standings going to WBHS even after their top of the table clash with Kamo last week, which eventuated in a gripping 18-all draw.

Entering round five this afternoon, Okaihau College play host to Kaitaia Abundant Life School, TKKM/Taipa face off against Broadwood Area School, while Northland College enjoy one week's rest with the bye.

In the South Pool, Kamo High School host Bay of Islands College, Bream Bay College travel to Tikipunga High School, and new side Te Kapehu Whetu play WBHS. Dargaville High School has the round five bye.
