Sometimes in life you need a good set of wheels and it is something the children at Mairtown Kindergarten know well with some pretty flash bikes and scooters on display at the kindergarten's annual wheel-a-thon fundraiser held at Kensington Park on Tuesday.

Teacher Christine Alford said the almost 40 children also like to take the opportunity to dress up themselves and there were spectacular costumes at the wheel-a-thon too.

It was not all about fun though, with the annual event also a fundraiser, with money from this year's wheel-a-thon going towards making the kindergarten more environmentally sustainable by buying hand water pumps to reduce the amount of water wasted.

Northern Advocate photographer Michael Cunningham went along to take some great pictures of the kids in action (and, just on the quiet, he could not resist having a go at the wheel-a-thon too).
