A fundraising event is being held in Whangārei next weekend for flood relief efforts in the Indian state of Kerala.
There are about 300 people from the state in Northland and many have been directly affected by the floods and land slips that have killed hundreds and left thousands more homeless after the worst monsoon season in more than a century.
The Whangārei Malayalee Association has organised a traditional Keralan drum performance for next Saturday from 6.30pm at the Kamo War Memorial Hall.
Entry to the event is free, but Indian dishes will be on sale, with all money going to the Kerala Flood Relief Fund.
Kerala Beats, a traditional drum group, will be performing at the event.
