The principal of Kamo High School has made the "rough" decision to resign to move closer to family in Australia.
Gavin Greenfield (pictured), who has been principal since September 2012, helped bring the school out from under government intervention.
He announced his resignation last week to move to Sydney, where his children and grandchildren live. "I can honestly say it was a rough one," Mr Greenfield said.
He has accepted a position at the University of New South Wales, as a project manager targeted at increasing university admissions for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
The Ministry of Education appointed a limited statutory manager to the school in June 2011 after the Education Review Office criticised the school's leadership and management.
