Kamo police are hoping to strengthen the thin blue line with a team of volunteers.
The aim is to have at least two volunteers manning the front counter at the police station at all times to help officers on duty.
Volunteers already help at an number of Northland stations including Whangarei, Dargaville, Maungaturoto, Onerahi, Ruakaka and Kerikeri.
Volunteer coordinator Jo Wyatt said the unpaid workers would be trained in how to take complaints and complete the necessary paper work.
About nine people are needed and will be rostered to do about three hours a week. Good people skills is a must for the job as is thinking on your feet and community spirit.
