After a spell farming, I owned a timber processing plant.
Currently I work in the agricultural contracting industry.
Elected to council in the Dargaville Ward in 2004, serving eight years, I gained considerable experience in local government.
You don't know what you don't know, so having been there is an advantage.
I am under no illusion as to the demands on the role of mayor and I am prepared to commit to it full time, "Putting Kaipara First".
I will work to build pride and respect between council, its staff, and the different Kaipara communities.
We will listen to the individual communities, including our local Iwi, to build thriving communities working together.
I will endeavour to head up a team of councillors who provide robust, fair, inclusive and transparent decision-making, to deliver the best outcomes for individual communities.
However, you want it you pay for it, I stand for user pays.
Council's core business must always be our focus.
Waste, storm and drinking water, refuse, and especially roading, these must be done well and done efficiently.
They are the foundation for economic development. Community spaces and facilities are how our visitors see us.
We were once referred to as New Zealand's best little council.
A number one vote for Brian McEwing is a vote for "Putting Kaipara First".
