Two car accidents kept Mid-North emergency services busy early yesterday, one crash taking out power to much of Kaikohe for up to two hours.
Kaikohe police Acting Senior Sergeant Dylan Robinson said police, fire, including a crew from Okaihau, and St John Ambulance services were called out about 12.40am after a car heading north with four occupants left State Highway One just north of Okaihau.
Mr Robinson said alcohol and speed were not believed to be a factor. A female passenger, 20, was flown to Whangarei Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.
The four were heading back to Kaitaia after a trip to Whangarei and fatigue may have contributed, Mr Robinson said. No other vehicles were involved and the other occupants, including a 15-year-old girl, had minor injuries.
Mr Robinson said shortly after that crash, a car took out a power pole in central Kaikohe, cutting power to parts of the town for up to two hours.
