A Whangarei man who indecently assaulted his pre-teen daughter and did an indecent act in view of her has been jailed for two years.
The man, who cannot be named to protect his daughter's identity, admitted two charges of indecent assault and one of an indecent act.
The offences, starting when the victim was aged 6, happened between 2008 and 2012 at different places in Whangarei.
In Whangarei District Court this week, the man said through lawyer Shaun Russell that he used to drink and used a lot of synthetic cannabis and had no memory of what he did.
Mr Russell said his client had a good job and would be missed by his employer, had no previous history of similar offending and acknowledged he had serious issues around alcohol but he hadn't drunk since being charged by police.
