A school gym became a temporary hairdressing salon and waxing studio when students at Huanui College staged their Shave for a Cure event.
Seventeen male students and three teachers had their locks shaved and in doing so help raise $2200 last Friday and more donations are still being collected.
Hairdressers from Whangarei salon Rodney Wayne donated their time and hair shaving skills for the event which included an auction. It seems there were plenty of bids when it came to helping shave off the head boy's hair, with the winner paying $150 for the honour of leaving Toby Lengyel with a close shave.
Event organiser and prefect Ella Rankin, along with Community Service prefects Thomas Roberts and Lagi Paul, said students supported the event and were entertained by the action, especially when it came to the waxing of hairy male legs.
