"To be fair, our players are really delighted to have made the final. It has been important, having a good team bond. We're really pleased to make it and we'll give it a good shot."
Also vying for season honours tomorrow, Maungakaramea will take on Mangapai in the premier men's grand final.
Booking themselves a ticket straight to the final after beating round-robin winners Springfield, 3-1, in the semifinals, Maungakaramea coach Dave Adams said he was expecting a "right old battle" when his side confronted Mangapai tomorrow.
"Mangapai's young boys have been playing pretty well over the last month or so," Adams said.
"In the last round-robin game they were leading us going into the last quarter. They've been one of the best developing teams this season."
Looking to build on their impressive showings over the last few weeks, Mangapai's Mark Thorne said his side would be looking to shake their underdog status with an upset win over Maungakaramea.
"At the start of the year we weren't aiming for the finals, to be honest. We were just aiming to play some good hockey really," Thorne said.
"The young fullas have really stepped up so they're deserving of making the final. We were definitely aiming to make the semifinal. Anything after that was a bonus really.
"Maungakaramea is always a tough team to beat. They've got a knack of coming through and winning so it should make for a pretty interesting final."
Tomorrow's grand finals action - including Division 1 and 2 and Reserve Grade matches - will take place from 11am at Hockey Northland's Kensington Park turfs.
