A love of the Steampunk movement and a passion for politics are a happy coincidence for Whangarei's Cayte Shepherd.
Advocate readers may recognise Ms Shepherd as Vivienne Shepherd, who describes herself as an active petitioner for political and environmental causes.
Yesterday, dressed as her Steampunk alter ego Cayte Shepherd, Ms Shepherd exercised her right to vote, at Forum North's polling booth.
The occasion also allowed her to highlight this Friday's Suffrage Day, on September 19.
On this date in 1893, Kate Sheppard, Isabella May and the other suffragettes achieved the Vote for Women in New Zealand. They were the first women in the world to have the right to vote.
