A new helipad at McLeod Bay is expected to ease patient transfers from the area to public hospitals in Northland and Auckland.
Installing the 8m by 8m concrete structure at the Mt Manaia Club's overflow carpark, together with an 11m driveway suitable for ambulance access, was a joint initiative by the Lions Club of Onerahi's project committee and the Northland Rescue Helicopter.
It was opened on Saturday.
The project cost about $14,000, half of which was through a grant from the Lloyd Morgan Charitable Trust.
Northern Advocate photographer Michael Cunningham went to the opening and took these photos.
