Does our city entrance need reviewing?

If we are truly to become the next Tauranga then maybe our city entrance needs review also. Several things strike me on entering Whangarei from the south. Firstly, there is that weird red pedestrian crossing colouring on Otaika Rd. Is that really effective?

Secondly, there is no glimpse or otherwise of our most obvious natural asset, the marina and the coast. As the Okara side of the city continues to develop, I have heard discussions around making Kioreroa Rd the entrance to the CBD, but one would then need to drive past an often pungent smelling water treatment facility and that is not quite the sort of welcome we may want to present.

I'm still thinking there is more to be done here.
