Why we must not vote to demolish the old Harbour building?
A lot of citizens have not realised the massive loss to ratepayers if the vote goes to "option C" - demolish.
This should never have been an option put up by the council without letting the public know what it has cost since purchased in 2003.
Here is a rough breakdown, for all the unknowns you could probably add another million.
Purchase in 2003 - $2.2 million.
Loss of rent over 12 years? (at a low $150,000 pa) - $1.8 million.
Making Hundertwasser model - $214,000
Executive trip for two to Vienna - $20,000
Seismic survey, plans and resource consent estimate - $200,000
Phone survey - $17,000
Referendum plus incidentals - $100,000
Demolition costs - $350,000
A very conservative total of $4.9 million
