The more I look at the suggested flag designs the more incorrect they look.
Where is there one design that puts the stars in the correct place? When I look for stars, I look up to the sky, an action that suggests inspiration not down to the earth or under the water an action that suggests depression and lower values.
If the stars were to be positioned at the top left-hand corner next to the flagpole they would be the dominant icon, they would be in a natural position and when the flag hung limp they would clearly indicate New Zealand.
A silver fern or whatever else that was appropriate could be added. Surely the stars of the Southern Cross are the most indicative symbol of a Pacific nation and, as far as I know, New Zealand is the only flag that uses four of them.
If any contemplation of the red triangle takes place, so should the positioning of our stars.
