I've been reading about the spillage of snapper out from Whangarei Harbour, and yes accidents do happen, but do we have to put up with commercial fishing a stone's throw from the shore?
Last weekend we went to Uretiti to put out the torpedo (longline), and to our disgust found commercial longliners (pictured) just beyond the shore break, and the tender dinghy came to within a few metres of the shore to pick up one of the end buoys from the longline.
This ruling is absolutely disgusting, allowing commercial fishing so close to our shores, but what do we do about it?
Recreational fishers have no show.
