We were involved in a serious motor accident involving three vehicles on SH1 at Kauri on Friday 27 November. We were lucky to survive with moderate injuries but were trapped in our car for around 40 minutes until emergency services were able to extract us from the wreck.
This was, without doubt, the most traumatic and frightening event in our (longish) lives. We know that fire, ambulance and police personnel attend this sort of scene all too often; nevertheless we would like to express our appreciation for the professional and caring manner in which the Whangarei emergency services responders looked after us.
A number of people arrived at the crash site and came to our aid. Among them were Craig and Greta Harman of Hikurangi, and an off duty fireman and others whose names we don't know. They reassured us, kept us calm and immobile, and were our guardian angels until the main crews arrived. We can't thank them enough - and hope that they see this letter and accept our grateful thanks.
