Yet another distraction ploy by National! It is once again that I read with utter amazement that John Key's government has pledged more of our taxpayers' dollars on wants not needs, this time promoting China's endangered panda when our Department of Conservation is grossly underfunded and much of our conservation relies heavily on the free contribution from volunteers. Help our unemployment rate and our endangered species by funding more conservation experts.
Only 6 per cent of NZ's recorded 2788 threatened species are being managed.
Why are we funding Chinese conservation when our takahe, kakapo, kiwi, Maui's dolphin and Kauri, to name just a few, are highly endangered?
There is an old saying of "clean up your own backyard, before poking your nose into other people's".
Our politicians could well remember this and, if we want a panda, we can always buy one at Toyworld or The Warehouse for the initial cost and no maintenance!
