With all that has been said about the recent by-election there is no real credit given to the admirable way in which Winston Peters and all who voted for him have succeeded in turning the tide in an effective way against National for the first time in years.
In a Government which refuses to listen to the many concerns voiced by its people, likes to shroud itself in secrecy, and utterly believes in its leader communicating to the public with smooth, meaningless words, it is however not surprising.
It is also likely that a small group of wealthy individuals with a political mantra for maintaining and increasing wealthy incomes at the expense of the many poor and vulnerable in this society are inevitably going to become unpopular.
The recent protests against the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (ignored by National), further oil-exploration permits granted in our beautiful seas, and the National Party's rejection of the Green Party's bill to provide food for hungry New Zealand children are just a few examples of the lack of a social and environmental conscience.
Total disregard for global warming and the potential for catastrophic oil spills are also the legacy of this Government.
