Maybe I am too much of a monarchist (and there is nothing wrong with that), but I believe that if somebody takes the Oath of Allegiance to the Crown, then wants to take the Union Jack out of the flag, it is nothing short of treason.
Should such a person get a knighthood for such an act? Surely not!
If so, then a knighthood doesn't mean what I think it should, nor does the Oath of Allegiance to the Crown. What would be next, knocking the Crown off the Coat of Arms?
Perhaps a new national anthem would follow that, then a referendum pertaining to New Zealand becoming a republic.
Now don't get me wrong. I see nothing wrong with New Zealand becoming a republic, but not on my watch, if I can help it, and certainly not instigated by somebody who has taken the Oath of Allegiance to the Crown!
