It is becoming more and more obvious that grammar is longer considered of importance in our post-primary English courses.
Regularly, in spoken and written statements, grammatical rules are not observed.
A case in point was the heading for the photos from the cultural festival in yesterday's edition when it stated "Exploring each other's culture". We were taught that "each other' was used when referring to just two people and "one another" was for when more than two were being referred to.
I can see that more than two were present so the latter word was the correct one, unless the rules have changed in modern times.
The lack of understanding is also demonstrated in the many instances of incorrect use of the apostrophe to indicate an omission - it's to mean "it is" . We do not use "her's" to show possession yet all too often we see "it's" in a similar case.
