The ACC Whangarei Half Marathon and 9km Run/Walk events took place under a blue Whangarei sky yesterday, with most participants making it home before squally showers set in.
In the half marathon event, which had 1169 finishers out of 1334 participants, Clint Van Der Mescht placed first and won the men's category in a time of 1:21:11, while Ady Mckenzie was the first female across the line in a time of 1:30:00, finishing seventh overall.
Rounding out the men's podium was Fred Housham, 1:22:25, and Louis Young, 1:23:59, while Carolyn Younger, 1:33:16, and Anna Spence, 1:33:28, completed the female top three.
In the 9km run Dylan Sims placed first overall, while Alan Connelly was the quickest competitor in the half marathon competitive walk division.
This year's half marathon featured harbour and coastal views, the Town Basin Sculpture Garden, Te Matau A Pohe bridge and Kowhiti footbridge, while the 9km run/walk featured bush tracks and the Hatea River along the Hatea River Track.
