A Whangarei father and son have been found guilty of taking a gun to a home to seek retribution on a man they thought had narked on a family member to police.
Selwyn Paikea, 56, and Haupapa James Paikea, 28, were on Thursday found guilty on one charge of kidnapping and another of use of a firearm. Selwyn Paikea was also found guilty on an additional charge of threatening to cause grievous bodily harm.
The pair have been remanded for sentencing in the court on February 7.
The Crown said both men went to Ross St, Onerahi on September 5 last year to seek retribution on a man they believed narked on one of their family members to police over cannabis offending.
In his summing up the defence and prosecution cases on Thursday, Judge Phil Gittos said it was up to the jury what evidence they chose to accept and which ones to reject. He cautioned the jurors not to allow themselves to be influenced by sympathy or prejudice.
