A number of Northland players both past and present are set for a tilt at the title in this week's Carrus Open at Tauranga Golf Club.
One of the original Charles Tour events, this will be the eighth annual Carrus Open that over the years has had an impressive list of winners including Michael Hendry, Mark Brown and Josh Geary.
The Tour offers leading amateurs and pros the chance to develop their skills in four round stroke play competition before trying their hand at one of the overseas tours.
On the amateur front, three of the current Northland men's squad and one from the women's are in the field. Chase McKeown (Waipu), Lee Neumann (Northland) and Sheldon Kearns (Waipu) will be looking to prove their form against the professionals with the playing order of the Northland men's still to be decided following the Busby Matchplay at Waitangi in two weeks. Junior Brooke Kingi (Whangaroa) continues her development as she competes on the Charles Tour for the first time.
The tournament, which started yesterday, runs until Sunday.
