A gang member who may well have thought he had out-smarted police after being on the run for a month got an early morning wake up call today.
Kawakawa police carried out an operation and arrested a 44-year-old man, with gang links, who had been on the run for over a month after failing to appear on charges relating to drugs, shoplifting, theft of motor vehicle and breach of court release conditions.
Warrants for his arrest had been issued in the Auckland, Whangarei and Kaikohe courts. Kawakawa Police received information that the man was back in their area and conducted a small operation to catch him.
He was found hiding under a bed in a Moerewa house and was to appear in the Kaikohe District Court today.
