Dargaville's top police detective has told a jury that not all items worn by the alleged robber of a jewellery shop were sent for forensic examination because of funding constraints.
Detective Sergeant Jonathan Tier told Whangarei District Court yesterday a pair of shoes and shards of glass from the aggravated robbery of Dargaville's Distinction Jewellers were among items sent to the Environment Science and Research (ESR) to be forensically examined.
Jackson Anderson, 25, is facing a charge of the aggravated robbery of Distinction Jewellers in 2011, two charges of unlawfully taking a vehicle and three of petrol thefts.
More than $22,000 worth of jewellery, including gold, platinum and diamond rings were stolen in the heist.
Answering questions from defence lawyer John Watson, Mr Tier said he'd love to send everything from a crime scene to the ESR but, because of funding constraints, police selected one or two items.
