Four Northlanders recognised in the Queen's New Year's Honours will receive their awards in Auckland this week.
Eight Northlanders were recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours List for their outstanding work and contribution to society, out of 179 people nationally.
In Northland the highest honours went to Northland Rescue Helicopter Service pilot Peter Turnbull, who was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to aviation and hapu leader Russell Kemp, who was made an ONZM for services to Maori.
Business leader Vern Dark was made a Member of the NZ Order of Merit (MNZM) for services to business and education while Waipu paracyclist Fiona Southorn was made a MNZM for her services to sport, particularly cycling.
